ABOUT IPL PHOTOFACIALS

Also called a “photofacial,” IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, which is a type of dermal photo rejuvenation administered via a device similar to a laser in order to remove pigment-related skin concerns. Whether you’d like to remove hyper or irregular pigmentation, sun damage, freckles, liver spots, or broken capillaries, IPL uses targeted light therapy to heat and break up pigmentation, which is then eliminated through the body’s lymphatic system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, this non-invasive procedure is FDA approved. However, please note that IPL cannot be performed on sunburned skin. In order to provide you with the safest procedure, you should avoid sun exposure in the two weeks leading up to your appointment.

You will see results within a few weeks after your first treatment, and increasing from there. Most patients see photo rejuvenation with just two or three treatments. As many pigment-related skin concerns will resurface, especially after sun exposure, we recommend avoiding sunlight, using a high-quality SPF, and scheduling yearly treatments for maintenance.

There is no recovery period; you may return to work or resume your day as you normally would, although your skin may be slightly red for a period after the procedure.

You may feel an uncomfortable sensation, like light pinching or zapping. For first-timers or those concerned about the sensation, a topical numbing cream can be applied prior to the treatment.

To prepare for a safe and successful photofacial, we advise protecting your skin from direct sun exposure before and after the procedure. Arrive for your IPL photofacial an hour early to receive a topical numbing cream, if desired.
